CONVOFIN DEFENSE · CONSUMER PROTECTION

Stopping mis-selling before it happens:
a consumer-first four-layer defense

Before you sign, it points out the strict exclusions hidden behind attractive benefits in terms and product descriptions, unfavorable clauses in small print, and clause types that often come up in dispute mediation.

All four work the same way in PDF analysis, image analysis, screen scan and direct input (visual analysis is not available for direct input).

Here is the technical architecture that narrows the large information gap between consumers and sellers and produces counter-questions you can use at the counter right away.

Explore the four core technologies

01 / DUAL-AGENT FACT-CHECKING

The seller's promise, side by side with its rebuttal

Mis-selling starts the moment you sign after hearing only one side of the product story. ConvoFin picks out the sales claims in a document, finds the conditions and exceptions in the same document that undercut them, and sets them against each other in a table.

01

Promise versus rebuttal

Next to the promise “guaranteed 5% a year” sits the rebuttal “however, drops to 0.1% if the previous three months' spending target is missed.” You can also see which one was printed larger.

02

Questions to ask at the counter

It drafts the questions you must ask before signing, such as conditions for losing principal, early-termination costs and bonus-rate conditions, tailored to the document. Just read them out at the counter.

03

Only sentences from the document

Every rebuttal in the table is a sentence that actually appears in the document. Invented rebuttals never make it into the table, so you can check each one against the source on the spot.

02 / FINANCIAL LOGIC KNOWLEDGE GRAPH

Finding “conditional exclusion traps” that only appear across several clauses

The most dangerous trap in financial terms is a benefit that is promised, then turned back into conditions, exclusions or costs several clauses later. You can't see it by reading one clause.

ConvoFin shows where a benefit starts, which clauses it passes through, and where it ends up in an exclusion or cost. It also catches clauses that leave the decision to the company, and clauses that point to each other in circles.

For example — Article 3 promises “a 5% bonus rate at maturity.” Article 12 says “however, the bonus does not apply if the card spending target is not met,” and Article 19 says “0.1% base rate on early termination.” Only by reading all three together do you see that “getting 5% is not easy.” ConvoFin chains these three clauses on one card and states in one sentence, by article number, why it is risky.

At the counter, just show the card and ask, “If I don't meet the Article 12 condition, what happens to the Article 3 benefit?” You can check the gap between the benefit the seller described and what the terms actually say before you sign.

What you'll see

  1. The path through the clausesEach clause in order, from the benefit clause to the exclusion or cost clause
  2. Why it's risky, in one sentenceUsing only article numbers, like “The Article 3 benefit passes through the Article 12 condition to the Article 19 exclusion”
  3. At a glance, as a diagramTap the small diagram in the sidebar to enlarge it; tap a clause to jump to its page in the source

03 / VISUAL DISPARITY & DARK PATTERN DETECTION

Promises in large print, liability waived in print too small to see

A common visual deception in product brochures is placing important risk notices too small, too faint or too far away. ConvoFin finds the big-print promises and the small-print conditions and shows them as pairs.

Size gap

Promise and condition at their actual sizes

It finds a large-print promise and a small-print condition on the same page and places them side by side at their actual font sizes. Faint text, text pushed into distant footnotes and fine print inside tables are covered too. Each finding is shown individually, not rolled into a single score.

PDFs, images and screenshots

It works the same on PDFs, photographed brochures and screenshots. Directly typed text has no font sizes, so it is not covered.

Linked to Overview

Marked right on the document

The top card in the 📋 Overview tab shows the large and small text side by side, and the lines are outlined in blue and red on the document. The promises and conditions also feed into the fact-check table and counter questions.

04 / DISPUTE TYPE REFERENCE

Compared against clause types that have led to real disputes

Drawing on published dispute mediation decisions, we have organized 20 types of mis-selling — such as principal-loss ranges, suitability checks, exclusions and surrender-value conditions, and acceleration of debt — and show which clauses in your document match them. It is not a verdict that the document is wrong, but a flag saying “this is often disputed, so check it.”

05 / BEFORE YOU SIGN

Before you sign, take one more look

ConvoFin Defense is a tool that points out what to check in a document. It does not judge whether a product is good or bad or whether you should sign up, and it may miss some clauses.

Understand it with ConvoFin, confirm it in the source, then decide.

  1. 1
Understand, then check the sourceGet the big picture from ConvoFin's explanation, then read the clause each card points to once more in the original. It's not hard once you know what to look for.
  2. 2
Ask at the counterRead the prepared questions on the card to the agent, and don't settle for a spoken answer — keep it in writing or as a recording.
  3. 3
Check with an expertIf the amount is large or the answer at the counter is vague, ask a financial expert or a consumer advice service before you sign.

The time you spend checking twice or three times is the surest defense against regret after signing.
ConvoFin is here to make that checking a little easier and faster.
